We’ve done our fair share of talking about hardware supply constraints over the past year.
Global memory supply shortages, RAMpocalypse, RAMmageddon, RAM crunch—whatever you want to call it, it’s certainly impacted our approach to building Dedicated Servers.
When we last wrote about these shortages, we promised to circulate good news when it arrived. That time is now.
We’re happy to share that we’ve got a new line-up of Dedicated Server builds on offer with plenty of stock to supply them on demand.
Refreshing the lineup
Our new range of four Dedicated Servers most notably features two completely new builds.
The most attention grabbing of them is our new entry-level EPYC Naples 7351 server, which brings the price of our lowest cost Dedicated Server down to $310/mo (for 36 months).
It’s cheaper than our lowest cost Dedicated Server build from August 2025 (that’s pre-RAMpocalypse pricing). This new pricing is closer to the “hardware gets better and cheaper over time” mantra we’d embraced in years past.
There’s also a brand new Dual EPYC Rome 7302 server joining the range that boasts 32 cores and 64 threads. It’s also priced on the lower end, sitting in line with our previous range’s lowest-priced server but equipped with more cores and RAM.
We’ve also added an enhanced version of the 168TB Storage server for those wanting large file storage, but we’ve now packed it with more RAM and more CPU cores than its predecessor.
The line-up is still influenced by hardware market conditions. We’re no longer ranging servers with more than 128GB RAM. We can certainly deploy servers with more memory, so get in touch if you need a bit more RAM and we can quote that for you. Do keep in mind, supply constraints are still making memory pricing quite volatile. That means it costs us a lot more than in the past to put together servers with lots of memory.
We’re no longer talking about things being “indicative”
The last article we published about the shortages used the term “indicative pricing” to describe our Dedicated Server range. Thankfully that’s no longer the case.
Our new line of Dedicated Servers is a lot less susceptible to disruptions, and we’ve got the stock to confidently get these builds running upon request.
Our traditional 'just in time' supply chain suppliers are still struggling with supply shortages and wildly fluctuating pricing. Here at SiteHost, by standardising the server offerings on builds that we use every day for our own network, we have been able to secure plenty of server stock that's now sitting in Auckland and ready-to-go.
We can still build servers to order on a POA basis, but the lead time on getting something custom ordered can take over two months at the moment. As always, if you need something, talk to us early.
The new lineup and supply confidence comes from work we’ve done behind the scenes, rather than suppliers coming to the party. Market conditions haven’t changed, we’ve just found ways to work around it.
To put it another way, the RAMpocalypse is far from over. Memory and storage prices are still trending up.
Custom builds are still tricky
We’re very confident in our ability to supply the Dedicated Server builds listed in our new lineup.
However, custom builds are still a different situation. If you’re wanting a different Dedicated Server than our off-the-shelf options you can still expect some long lead times. You’ll also want to make sure your expectations are aligned with today’s constrained market realities.
Hardware suppliers have little time for small orders now. They know they can make bigger money from bigger orders. As a result, earlier this year we announced that quotes for custom builds would only be valid for five days, and we even stopped offering them at all at one point. Depending on the exact gear you’re after, we may not need to be quite as strict with our timelines as we once were.
The other exciting new option
If Dedicated Servers don't fit inside your budget but you're needing lots of computing power, it could be worth checking out our new Reserved Virtual Servers range. These servers combine the best bits of Dedicated Servers and our virtualisation technology.
Optimism in this strange timeline
We’ve got some renewed optimism and confidence in our ability to provide Dedicated Servers, but global hardware constraints are still affecting the tech industry as much as ever. Our supply has been solidified for now, but the market conditions remain.
It’s still wise to be decisive with Dedicated Servers. If you intend to buy a new Dedicated Server or upgrade any hardware soon, our advice is still to do it now.
