Root access

As an unmanaged VPS, you get full root access. Install any packages or applications you need, and set them up however you like.

Designed for development

Built with development and testing in mind. Because these servers are designed for non-critical test projects, we're not offering backup services.

Eligible customers

These servers are only available to existing customers and students. To make sure there's enough to go around, we've got a limit of two Dev VMs per account.

Network & IP

Provisioned with 1 x IPv4 address. There are no native IPv6 or network upgrade paths for any Developer VPS.

Best-effort infrastructure

These servers run on fully-tested, deprecated enterprise nodes with NVMe drives. They operate on a best-effort VM availability basis.

Ticket & email support

Support requests are handled via our ticket system and email. Server Management is unavailable for any Developer VPS.

Frequently Asked Questions

We've designed the Developer VPS service specifically for our existing clients and students. To spin one up, you must have at least one active production server running on your account or currently be studying at an educational institution.
These servers are limited to a single plan at present, for development and staging purposes only. Upgrading resources is currently unavailable.
Unlike our High Performance Virtual Servers, which run on blazing fast modern hardware, Developer VPS utilises highly reliable, legacy enterprise processors. They still feature NVMe storage for snappy disk read/write times, making them perfect for testing code, but they are not intended to handle heavy production traffic.
To keep costs low, these environments are classified as "best-effort" unmanaged VMs. They are supported via our ticket system and email only. If your project scales and requires 24/7 proactive monitoring or phone support, you can easily convert the instance to a Standard or Managed VPS plan at any time.

SiteHost Control Panel

A simple, developer-friendly interface

The SiteHost Control Panel makes VPS management fast and easy. Manage SSH users, access metrics, take snapshots, and more.

What is a Virtual Private Server (VPS)?

A VPS is your independent, virtualised server. You get complete control over the configuration of your system. It's a low-cost way to access raw resources and do what you want with them.

When you get your VPS from SiteHost you get your full allocation of resources at all times. With the Developer VPS tier, you get the full freedom of root access.

When you compare hosting options, a VPS gives you more control and flexibility than Cloud Containers, at a lower price than a Virtual Dedicated Server (VDS).

Developers love SiteHost

Our VPS customers say great things about our products, services and support. Things like this.

SiteHost are by far the most reliable and competent hosting company we have used. If I had to choose a company for our VPS needs again, this is the company I would choose. ★★★★★

When we're hunting around for hosting one of our primary things is support. That's always been key. I've hosted with a lot of American companies, and their support is either next to none, non-existent, or handed off to a call centre that's really not well connected to the company at all. So from my point of view, it's peace of mind.

When we spoke to other providers the barrier to entry was higher. With SiteHost we could be up and running in 10 minutes, that might even be understated, it was probably closer to 5 minutes.
